Tuesday, March 26, 2024- We learned about the Northwest New Mexico Pickleball Club- from Nick Lacey (who also happens to be a Farmington Police officer). We also had a very large group of new inductees- all sponsored by Jack or Terri Fortner- pinned by other club Rotarians. New inductees are: Jyl Adair, Allen Elmore, Larry Moore, Ronette Smith, Frankie Villa Lobos, Nashota Yazzie...Welcome!

Tuesday, March 19th Meeting- Today, we heard from our own Rotarians and community leaders, Senators Steve Neville and Bill Sharer. They spoke about this year's legislative budget session, focusing on long-term goals that were accomplished as well as challenges facing New Mexico now and in the future. During the meeting, we also welcomed new member Gabriel Garcia.

Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Meeting
Today's meeting was focused on learning about the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP). Tina Pacheco informed us about the benefits of the program that allows area youth to earn funding for their sports teams and programs by volunteering.  We also had the privilege of welcoming former member Abe Barela back into the club!

Our own Rotarian, Vickie Campbell, presented with the UmattR teens. UmattR is a program that addresses social issues facing our local youth. UmattR teens are selected from across San Juan County and are positive role models to their peers and local students.

Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Meeting: 9/11 National Day of Service
Tuesday, February 20th, we heard from Seth Bingham about the 9/11 Day of Service. On this day of service, many people across the country give their time in service of their community. Last year, hygiene bags and park improvements were two of the ways that county residents participated. First Lady and President-Elect Terri Fortner led the charge was President Jack Fortner was out.
Tuesday evening (February 6th) Rotarians gathered for a social and dined together before watching Johnny Cash The Official Concert Experience. Thanks to Janis for organizing this social. 
Tuesday, February 6, 2024 Meeting: Revisiting Rotary
At our Rotary meeting this week, we heard about the many programs we operate and participate in.  As Rotarians, we choose to live a life of service to others so it's important that we jump in and support our various projects which include Healing Field, One Book One School, supporting Salvation Army and much more!

Tuesday, January 30, 2024 Meeting
San Juan County Deputy Manager Steven Saavedra talked to Rotarians about the County's initiatives related to mental health and the development of a Crisis Triage Center which would allow first responders to provide individuals in crisis with immediate access to supports. The project is currently in development but looks to be a great future community resource!

During today's meeting, we inducted Vickie Campbell as our newest Rotarian. Ferdi Serim of Rotary Club of Santa Fe (Congrats RC of SF on your 100th birthday!) visited and talked to us about The Four Way Test Essay Contest. Our guest speakers were Candace Krestel and Ashten Mizell talking about Night to Shine- a project funded by the Tim Tebow Foundation that creates a prom night for individuals with special needs. Tuesday, January 9, 2024 Meeting
Today at Rotary, we learned about Farmington’s new Metabolic and Bariatric Institute. Dr. Ernst and Meghan Ritz talked about the issues related to obesity, the procedure, as well as their treatment methods. It was an informative day!
 
On Saturday, January 6th, Rotarians Bill Sharer and Rick Burns from San Juan County Rotary Club paired up with Rotarians Brad Ekhoff and Greg Hallstrom from Albuquerque Rotary del Sol to build a needed ramp at a local home. Thank you, gentlemen, for a job well done! 
Next Tuesday, support Rotary and saving lives by donating blood. The Bloodmobile will be available at Hills Church before, during, and after lunch.

First Rotary Meeting of 2024!
Club members met for the first meeting of the new year. Greg and Brad Ekhoff from Albuquerque Rotary del Sol talked about their club and the New Mexico Ramp Project. Bill Sharer will step up as chair of our club's New Mexico Ramp Project. To top things off, Steve Neville brought President Jack Fortner a joke book to help him improve.

At our Tuesday, December 5th meeting, Mark Johnson was inducted into our club as a returning Honorary Member.  Our guest speaker was Mrs. New Mexico America Perla Wahoske who resides in the area. Lieutenant Christopher Rockwell of the Salvation Army and Jennifer Johnson from San Juan United Way spoke to our club on November 28th. They talked about different ways to help our youth and seniors this Christmas including Angel Tree and the senior citizen blanket drive.

On November 14th, Bags of Love presented to our Club.  Bags of Love are given to children who have been displaced from their homes or are in need of items due to difficult circumstances.  To support this project, donations of items or financial resources can be made.

Rotarians Support Local Students with One School, One Book
On Monday, October 30th, our Rotarians handed out books as part of our ongoing One School, One Book partnership with McCormick Elementary School. Numerous studies have documented the importance of reading for emotional, academic, and professional success. We love the opportunity to books in the hands of children to give them access to these important tools, but also to help them develop the love of learning. This year's book, A Boy Called Bat, will be read by all students and their families over winter break.

The San Juan Rotary Club is proud to present the annual "Flags of Remembrance Healing Fields" Memorial Event. Hundreds of 3x5 America Flags will fly on eight-foot poles, displayed in perfect rows and columns, in an awe-inspiring tribute to honor those men and women who sacrifice their time, talents, and lives for freedom, society, and to better the lives of others. Each flag will fly in honor of a hero.
Sponsor a flag in honor of all who serve and sacrifice or for a personal hero in your life. At the end of the tribute, take the flag home to your business or present it to your hero to fly and continue the tribute. 
The "Flags of Remembrance Healing Fields" event is free of charge and open to the public daily. Come with your family and friends to walk among the flags and experience the spirit of America as you never have before. May 2024
